As part of Erasmus+ projects and on the basis of the Erasmus Accreditation for adult education, the teachers and staff at the Idrija Lace School carried out international job shadowing activities.
Project duration: 1 June 2022 – 31 August 2023.
The implemented job shadowing activities contributed to the improvement of the quality of non-formal education in Idrija Lace School; enabled the planned inclusion of teachers and staff in international activities and contributed to networking with organizations dealing with lacemaking in the European area.
The entire staff of the lace school and one of the participants of the adult education were involved in the job shadowing activities. During the realization, we took into account the Erasmus+ standards of quality, green mobility and the inclusion of people with fewer opportunities. Job shadowing activities took place at visiting organizations that in different ways deal with the lace heritage of the common European space:
- Centrum Kultury i Promocji Gminy, Bobova in Poland;
- Comune di Novedrate, Novedrate in Italy;
- Muzeum a galerie Orlickych hor vv Rychnove nad Knežnou and Muzeum Krajky Vamberk, Vamberk in the Czech Republic;
- Kantcentrum Brugge, Brugge in Belgium;
- Creative Center of Kalofer Bobbin Lace, Kalofer in Bulgaria;
- Das Klöppelmuseum Nordhalben; Nordhalben in Germany;
- Lefkara Municipality, Lefkara in Cyprus.
Through international activities, the participants learned about the methods of operation and scope of activities in the field of lacemaking in the host organizations and strengthened their professional, learning, intercultural, language and personal competences.
Many learning goals were achieved, but we highlight the following as the most important:
- in-depth knowledge of the history of lacemaking in the common European space.
- a higher level of mutual constructive cooperation of teachers and staff.
- improved communication in a foreign language.
- exchanging and gaining new experiences.
- getting to know different types of lace.
- better visibility of the Idrija Lace School in the common European lace area.
- preservation of cultural heritage is a conscious decision, important mainly because of the values associated with heritage and less because of the economic effect.
- to raise awareness of the importance of preserving intangible cultural heritage, it is also necessary to educate consumers so that they are aware of the values of handicraft products and know how to distinguish them from machine-made products, which can be very similar to handicrafts.
- acquired competences and learning goals will enrich the educational content for adult learners in the Idrija Lace School and improve the variety and quality of education for adults.
