Bobbin lacemaking in Slovenia is inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Idrija Lace School is one of the bearers of this heritage. The School is seated in Idrija, Slovenia. Idrija is a town with reach UNESCO heritage. Beside bobbin lacemaking, also the heritage of once second biggest mercury mine in the world, which was operating in Idrija, is under the UNESCO protection and we are situated in the heart of Idrija UNESCO Global Geopark. Because of the rich heritage, Idrija is an attractive destination for cultural tourism. Learning about handmade bobbin Idrija Lace is one of the contents of the cultural tourism offer in Idrija. Because of the higher international recognition of bobbin lacemaking in Slovenia, as a result of listing it under the UNESCO protection, the number of adult learners from abroad, who would like to take part in non formal education in Idrija Lace School, increased.
As a result of increasing number of foreign learners, Idrija Lace School was facing with the problem, of not having enough educators, motivated and feeling competent to educate learners from abroad. That kind of situation is not good for Idrija Lace School, because it can cause declining in quality and quantity of the existing level of international cooperation. It can cause lowering the level of awareness of the importance of cultural heritage, last but not least, the limited operation of the school in a narrow local area, in short, a marked deterioration of the current situation.
The project LACEING is intended to raise awareness of the adult educators in Idrija Lace School about the importance of international cooperation, to motivate and enable them to experience the international mobilities, enable them to meet other forms of adult education abroad and to gain competences to be self-confident and motivated to practice andragogical practice for foreign adult learners. To this end, the involved educators will take part in nine structured courses in EU countries. The learning objectives of the selected structured courses relate to learning about different approaches in communication for different personality types of adult learners; raising awareness of human diversity; communicating with participants of different nationalities, sharing experiences and establishing cooperation. Participants will learn about other forms of training and opportunities for future partnerships. They will experience cross-cultural education with respect to the values of equality, solidarity, social justice, peace and cultural diversity. They will improve their communication skills in the English language, gain a higher level of confidence for communication in the English language, both in the implementation of andragogical practice and for personal purposes. If the number of educators confident and motivated to carry out andragogical practice in the English language will rise from the current 30% to the expected 75%, we will estimate that the project objectives have been achieved. experience the international mobilities, enable them to meet
