IDRIJA LACE SCHOOL – SINCE 1876

Idrija Lace School – an integrated handicraft center that takes care of the preservation, development and promotion of the Idrija lace-making skills.
In 2026, we celebrate an important anniversary – 150 years of continuous operation. The school is currently attended by 500 children and young people. These children and young people are also the bearers of living heritage, which is inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and are our greatest pride, because in this way our heritage is preserved, nurtured and, more importantly: we live, develop and pass it on to future generations.
The Lace School is not just a school of lacemaking, it is also a school of learning life values. It is a story of perseverance, patience, precision and great love for Idrija lace.
And last but not least, it is also a story of the connection and valour of the employees, who for 150 years have continuously ensured that the knowledge of lacemaking does not die out, but grows.
